4 DAYS 'TIL GRADUATION - 8:06PM
I heard that black boys turn blue in the moonlight
Good thing this brown girl's skin glows like the Moon's light
5 years of plight
Arguments
Disappointments
And drunk nights
Have led me to gracefully
Walk this stage and embrace my degree
For the love I've lost
The friends God tossed
The hurt that I felt
The growth that is steadily being built
So that at 11:00 am this coming Monday
I'm glowing like a Full Moon dancing upon the sea
Radiant
Glorious
Black Girl Magic as far as the eye can see
LISTEN - 2:09PM
For a moment, I felt nonexistent
As if all of me was being pulled along side the twirling leaves
Life was moving all around me and I was just observing from the trees
Walking upon the stone as my hand pets the bushes of life beside me
Watching the birds fly so free
Above thee, while the clouds move over the little girl eating her ice cream
Modern day castles in the middle of cities
And yet some still struggle to find peace
Noticing how frustrated humanity is
And how they release their frustration into the world letting it morph into another sin
But listen to the sound of the jungle, as concrete as it maybe
Because the closer you listen, the louder nature will be
FREE - 1:04AM
I like you, who is free
Free on the outside and free internally
You remind me of a shooting star in the dead of night
Flying over my head leaving a trail of light
I like you, who is free
Reminding me of that melody the breeze plays when the incoming west winds leave me in a daze
Like a traveller, free of burden for he only carries what leaves him light-hearted
Bringing his lover's love and the memories of those he departed
Nearly thwarted, by potholes of stress and trouble
But you can't stop a man whose been built through the rubble
So I dare you to catch him fumble
I like you, who is free
Free from judgement, lies, and chaos
Appreciating the small and the big, cause you know never to play God
I like you, who is free
But
I love you, for who you've made me be
So now, I love you, who is free
Like I love the big waves from the crashing sea
Like the universe and all that we can't see
Like a newborn receiving the sun's first light
Or when you've cried so hard that a laugh brings you back to life
Don't forget, everything you've felt
Cause it can save you from all that has yet to be dealt
Because I adore you, who is free
But you must remember to love the You that You would want to see .
